What is Valentine's Day?

Hi Friendzz…

             HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY...!!!

We all know that, a Valentine is someone who we love or to whom we are attached to.

And we also know that Valentine’s Day is celebrated on 14th February every year.

But do we know that this day is also known as Saint Valentine’s Day, named after Saint Valentine…!!!???

Here I’ll share a few facts what I know, about this day.

It seems that, the ancient Romans might be responsible for the name of this day of love. Valentine, a holy priest in Rome was executed by Emperor Claudius II on Feb 14, in the 3rd Century. During Claudius rule, Rome was involved in many unpopular campaigns. This made the emperor to build a strong army, which came out to be very difficult as he believed that Roman men were unwilling to join the army as they had a stronger attachment with their family.

In order to build his strong army, Claudius decided to stop all the marriages and engagements in Rome. But Valentine helped people to get married against the words of Claudius. He was found wearing a ring with a Cupid symbol on it, as a symbol of love which helped people realize him.

Knowing this, Claudius ordered to put Valentine to death. Soon Valentine was arrested, dragged and was beaten to death. This death of Valentine happened on February 14th in the end of 3rd Century.

Also, people say that the origin of Valentine’s Day was Murky (a set of people). Ancient Romans were celebrating a spring festival, called LUPERCALIA on 15th February every year.

Lupercalia was an ancient, possibly a Pre-Roman pastoral annual festival, observed in the city of Rome, to avert evil spirits & purify the city, releasing health & fertility.

At the end of 5th Century, Pope Gelasius-I replaced Lupercalia with Saint Valentine’s Day.

You know what, the first Valentine’s Day was celebrated in the year 496!!!

Later from 14th Century, it came to be celebrated as a day of romance.

As days went on, people especially couples, started to celebrate this as a big day. Just Remember, this day is to show love to people around you.

So not only couples, even our pets are our Valentine. Spread love to your family, friends and finally to your world.

Say Thanks to your family and friends who helped you in all your ups and downs.

Say Sorry to people you would have hurted unknowingly.

             Gift your love to them.
